Aerospace & DefenseMission critical applications rely on Arnold's performance materials and designs

Mission critical applications.

From commercial and military aviation to satellites, Arnold provides materials and products used in a wide range of critical applications where quality and performance are of utmost importance.

Extreme temperatures and corrosive environments call for RECOMA® Samarium Cobalt; an ideal choice for permanent magnetic applications which are expected to perform flawlessly for extended periods and with little or no maintenance. Aerospace and defense customers also choose our thin and ultra-thin titanium to create lighter-weight structural sections and Arnon®, our Non-Grain Oriented Silicon Steel (NGOES) to increase the efficiency of permanent magnet motors.

Many of our products are ITAR compliant, made from our advanced, DFARS compliant materials.

As demonstrated through our quality processes and ISO 9001:2008, AS9100, and Nadcap certifications, Arnold customers are accustomed to receiving the highest quality materials, consistently and quickly.

Applications

  • Ram Turbine Engine (RAT)
  • Auxiliary Power Units
  • Flap Actuators
  • Position Sensors
  • Coolant Pump Impellors
  • Magnetic Bearings
  • Wave guides for microwave transmission  (TWT)
  • EMI/RFI shielding

Ram Turbine Engine
Some of the magnets and magnetic assemblies we make for this market are used in a ram air turbine (RAT) which end up on commercial airplanes. A RAT is a small turbine that is connected to an electrical generator installed in an aircraft and is used as a power source in emergency situations. The RAT generates power from the airstream due to the speed of the aircraft.

Flap Actuators
Arnold's magnets and precision assemblies we manufacture are used in rotary and linear actuators that control wing positioning, rudder positioning, and a variety of other applications on the F-35 fighter jet.

Traveling Wave Tubes
Traveling wave tubes are used in many space and military applications where communication over a large distance is needed. These tubes basically take the generated signal and amplify it so that it can be properly received. Some of the space applications include satellites which are launched into orbit and then required to send information back to earth as it travels the universe. Some of the military applications include radar communication with missiles and aircraft. All of these applications require permanent magnets that must be held to tight tolerances and field strengths in order to properly maintain the generated signals to be amplified. It is also important to choose the proper magnetic material in order for it to withstand the possible harsh environments of space.
