The following pages contain a comprehensive list of terms and definitions used in the engineering and manufacturing of permanent magnets, precision rolled strip and foil products and shaped-field electromagnets (solenoids).

Also available in the Technology Center section of the Arnold website is a list of magnetics reference books many of which also contain glossaries.

The International Magnetics Association, (IMA), formerly the MMPA, had published documents titled Permanent Magnet Guidelines and Standard Specifications for Permanent Magnet Materials. Both contain useful glossaries. The first document also contains a description of magnetic properties and measurement methods. Although this organization is no longer active, the documents are still available for downloading from: www.intl-magnetics.org/publications.php.
