INTRODUCTION TO SOFT & PERMANENT MAGNETISM

TARGET AUDIENCE
Persons who are seeking an introductory course in soft & permanent magnetism, for example: Business Managers, Design Engineers, Purchasing Agents, Sales Engineers, Customer Service Personnel and Quality Assurance Engineers.

CONTENT
When dealing with the fundamentals of magnetics, differences between soft and permanent magnetic materials are often subtle. This seminar has been configured to instruct in the fundamentals of magnetism which are common to both types of material.

Most systems employing permanent magnets also utilize soft magnetic materials to carry magnetic flux. System optimization requires, therefore, an understanding of both types. An overview of the major commercially significant magnetic materials will be presented.

Attendees will participate in both classroom and hands-on laboratory sessions. At the end of the standard two-day session curriculum, attendees should have an understanding of the basics of magnetism, how materials are tested for suitability in an application and how these materials are manufactured.

This seminar presents the knowledge required for the more advanced seminars in magnetics:
• Design of Permanent Magnet Systems
• Soft Magnetic Products & Their Applications

Day 1
  • Introduction
  • Permanent Magnet Fundamentals
  • Permanent Magnet Materials
  • Markets & Applications for Permanent Magnets
  • Soft Magnetic Materials and Their Processing
  • Markets and Applications for Soft Magnetic Materials
  • Measurement & Testing Workshop
Day 2
  • Magnet Design Fundamentals
  • Magnetizing and De-Magnetizing
  • Environmental Considerations
  • Group Discussion and Concluding Remarks

COST
Modest fees are charged to cover the cost of travel, class notes and training. Please contact Arnold for further information.
