Service and Support
Engineering Design
Arnold's Applications and Design Engineers use modern software and equipment to assist with design parameters and selection of the optimum material.

Magnet Testing
The Applications Laboratory in Rochester has a diverse set of magnetic measuring and physical test equipment. Magnetic test equipment includes several hysteresisgraphs (DC and AC), Field Scanner (X-Y-Z and Rotary), 9T Magnetizer, Helmholtz fluxmeter systems (6, 8 and 24 inch), Gaussmeters, and more. Other factories within Arnold have additional and complimentary equipment. Physical test equipment includes an Instron Tensile tester, Salt Spray Chamber, T&H Chamber, Autoclaves (including HAST), and several ovens (-40 to 343 ēC).

Magnetizing
Arnold uses magnetizers as part of normal magnet production. These range from 12 to 100 kiloJoules and use solenoids and fixtures up to 6" (150 mm) in diameter. Applied fields are up to 9 Tesla (90,000 Oersteds in the Applications Laboratory 1.5" coil).

Stabilization & Calibration
All permanent magnets experience irreversible loss in magnetic output as a function of temperature and demagnetizing stress. Pre-treating a magnet or magnetic assembly either thermally or with a demagnetizing field can greatly reduce losses in the final product.

|
Fabrication & Assembly
Arnold has the equipment and expertise to machine magnets to demanding tolerances. Our years of experience with assembly materials and techniques provide robust solutions to the most challenging applications needs.
A Halback array is shown here made with SmCo magnets in a stainless housing. Examples of other assemblies are motor sub-assemblies, torque-coupled pump drives and non-contact position sensors. Customers include military, aerospace, industrial products, consumer products, magnetic separation and more.

DFARS Compliance
DPAP (Defense Procurement Acquisition Policy) is responsible for all acquisition and procurement policy matters in the Department of Defense (DoD). One of those activities is DFARS (Defense Acquisition Regulations System).
Defense Federal Acquisition Regulation Supplement (also referred to as DFARS) provides DoD implementation and supplementation of the Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR).
The DFARS contains requirements of law, DoD-wide policies, delegations of FAR authorities, deviations from FAR requirements, and policies/procedures that have a significant effect on the public.
Companies supplying to military contractors (or sub-contractors) are required to conform to these regulations.

Environmental, Health and Safety
As of April 30, 2007, new versions of the World Bank Group Environmental, Health, and Safety Guidelines (known as the 'EHS Guidelines') are now in use. They replace those documents previously published in Part III of the Pollution Prevention and Abatement Handbook and on the IFC website.
The new EHS Guidelines were developed as part of a two and a half year review process, details of which are available on the EHS Guidelines Update website. The EHS Guidelines are intended to be 'living documents', and will be updated on a regular basis going forward. Please check this site for future information on the update mechanism.
